The Power of Keyword Research – Google’s External Keyword Tool

This month’s tip focuses on using Google’s External Keyword Tool to begin keyword research. Google’s keyword tool, while not the most impressive, is free. Further, it will help you to create a seed list of keywords from which you can optimize for the purpose of driving both organic search engine traffic and paid-for traffic to your website. And, you can take this keyword seed list and use it as a starting point for any of the paid-for keyword tools you might want to try.

Upon landing on Google’s External Keyword Tool web page, you will notice a clean and easy to use keyword tool. I like to start my keyword research using "Descriptive words or phrases, but you should also see what comes up if you select Website content.

Get started by typing one or more keywords into the available text field, fill in the right Captcha code and click on the Get keyword ideas button. What happens next is MONEY!

You should now see a table displaying:

  • Keywords – keywords people have actually searched for
  • Advertiser Competition – a level of competing web pages (more green means more competing web pages)
  • Local Search Volume – a number count for the previous month based upon your location country
  • Global Monthly Search Volume – a 12-month average count for searhces from all countries

Since we predominantly market our phone cards to people making phone calls form the US, I prefer using the Local Search Volume numbers to decide which keywords I want to target and how I will target them.

Get started and let us know if you have any questions about using Google’s Extenal Keyword tool or any of the paid-for keyword tools. Again, keyword research is critical to your overall success as an affiliate marketer.

Good luck!

Why do some phone cards become discontinued?

While we attempt to create a hi-quality, revenue producing line of phone cards, there will be instances in which the cards perceived to be winners simply end up being losers for reasons other than poor performance.

Carriers create phone cards by anticipating usage and profit. They may also incorporate additional fees (e.g. maintenance fees, connection fees) in attempt to make more of a profit. Knowing this, the savvy phone card consumer attempts to discover ways to get maximum usage from a phone card. One such way is to purchase in smaller denominations and burn the card in one call, thereby avoiding the other fees. Thus, the carrier does not receive the additionally anticipated profit. Result… the card is withdrawn. In worse cases, a heavy loss because a carrier to cease business.

Therefore, we must continue to seek alternative products. We’ll do our best to convey these changes to you as promptly as possible!
